2011 is a Year of Major Change for Apprehensive Films & The World

I used the Dracula Lives cover on left to represent change. I own this over-sized comic and thought there wasn't a better way to symbolize change than the cover art of the vampire bat morphing into Dracula!

2011 Has Been a Strange New World to Most Everyone.

- The Unemployment Rate in the US is at an All-Time High since the Great Depression.
- Disney Laid-Off 250 People from their Distribution Division.
- A Hamburger Restaurant is Opening in Folsom CA, near where I live, More than 800 People Have Applied for Jobs There.
- Nasa Laid-Off 9,000 People.
- The Government Planned to Create 18,000 New Jobs, They Succeeded in Creating 1,800...

The list of depressing fact goes on and on, way too long to mention them all here. It's time for major change and it has to start from the bottom up, if you're waiting for it to "Trickle Down" you'll die poor, old and still waiting. Things need to change at the base line, Entrepreneurs are the future. People who can create their own income. If your old sales channel isn't working, find a new one. Keep turning over rocks, there will be gold under some of them. Swallow your pride and do what needs to be done. Post up next to a RedBox and start selling your indie movie hand to hand. Start selling your CD's out the trunk of your car. Look at getting your product into niche markets that may be flourishing in a poor economy. Medical Marijuana Dispensaries anyone? Move forward, the VHS Boom is gone, but something just as exciting could be right around the corner, but we have to get off our asses and find it. If we don't initiate change on our end, the rich will just become wealthier and the poor will die.

It's Midnight on Friday The 13th!

So technically people will say it's Saturday the 14th, but in my heart it's just into the midnight hour of Friday The 13th! In celebration I figured I'd post a picture of one of the most odd Friday The 13th toys ever manufactured. And yes I own a pair of these, but the packaging is long gone.

Jason Voorhees and Victim Spitballs. Spitballs were the rage in the late eighties for about a year. There was also a Freddy Krueger and Victim Spitballs set and a bunch of GhostBusters Spitballs. Enjoy the pic! I love the selling point of an 18 foot squirt!

H.G. Lewis Classic Wizard of Gore on DVD in Stock at www.TheGrindHouse.Net

We have the H.G. Lewis classic Wizard of Gore on DVD in stock at http://www.thegrindhouse.net/ Get it today for only $12.95.

Is it magic? Or wholesale slaughter? Montag the Magnificent (Ray Sager), The Wizard of Gore, is a seedy small time magician with a shocking stage act. Hypnotizing pretty young women from the audience to be his obedient volunteers, Montag then proceeds to mutilate them in a series of Grand Guignol illusions. A woman is cut in half with a chainsaw, another is drilled through the stomach with a giant punch press, a metal spike is driven through one gal's head, and two ladies are forced to swallow swords. Trouble is, after the show, the "illusions" become all too horribly real. Blood, guts, and offbeat surrealism in another crackpot classick from "The Wizard of Gore" himself, director Herschell Gordon Lewis.

Rob Bottin, The Most Overlooked Special FX Master in Horror Film History?

It's quite possible that Rob Bottin is the most overlooked and often forgotten special FX master in horror movie history. The hardcore fans out there I'm sure are thinking " Are you kidding me? The guy created the FX for John Carpenter's The Thing!" But the hardcore fan base only makes up a small percentage of special FX admirers and enthusiasts.

When someone asks who are some Hollywood special FX guys? Most likely you'll hear Tom Savini, Dick Smith, Rick Baker, Stan Winston and KNB FX. But hardly ever does anyone bring up Rob Bottin, who in my opinion has done some of the most stunning special FX work in the history of film. Bottin did live in Rick Baker's garage when he was in his twenties.

Bottin created all the special FX for John Carpenter's The Thing, the three boobs in Total Recall, the werewolfs for The Howling and a ton more.

Selected Filmography

  • Piranha 1978

  • The Fog 1980

  • The Howling 1981

  • The Thing 1982

  • Legend 1985

SWEDISH SENSATIONSFILMS Book Now For Sale at TheGrindHouse.Net, Christina Lindberg

Yes fans of Swedish exploitation (Christina Lindberg Anyone?) cinema can now rejoice! We have SWEDISH SENSATIONSFILMS the book for sale at http://www.thegrindhouse.net/ and it's just $20.00.

320 page trade paperback, plus 8 pages of sensational color. Features over 200 reviews of strange and sexy Swedish films Full-color insert features rare vintage film posters and lobby cardsOriginal cover artwork by Wes Benscoter (Black Sabbath, Slayer, Thriller).

Sweden’s prominent and secure film legacy is associated internationally with Ingmar Bergman’s successful and high-quality works. However, even the greatest Swedish director could not resist another breed of Swedish film—notorious for laissez-faire nudity, relaxed sexuality, drugs, and shocking violence—the sensationsfilm.

In 1911, Sweden enacted the world’s first government board of film censors, provoking a century-long war against filmmakers that outlived two World Wars, communism, and the sexual revolution. In 2011, the censors finally surrendered—and SWEDISH SENSATIONSFILMS declares victory with a fiery retrospective of over 200 often banned and cut films produced during the golden age of Swedish sin. PLUS: First-hand accounts by starlet Christina Lindberg (Thriller: En Grym Film, Maid in Sweden); scores of rare exhibition posters and images, a glossary of curious Swedish customs; and an uninhibited cast of thousands, including: Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Pernilla August, Lee Hazlewood, Dennis Hopper, Max von Sydow, David Carradine, Heinz Hopf, Harry Reems, Noomi Rapace, Marie ForsÃ¥, Troy Donahue, Zinny Zan, and Ludde the dog.

Produced in the backyard of the Swedish film industry, these sexually daring films form a canon of countless sensational movies dealing with shocking or taboo subjects—street punks, sadistic mobsters, space aliens, unruly housewives, ruthless drug pushers, bloodthirsty ninjas, teen temptresses, lingonberry cowboys, bearded perverts, and drunken vikings—all simply too strange to ignore.

Once again, Swedish Death Metal author Daniel Ekeroth delves into the arcane culture and contradictions of his homeland, returning with the first comprehensive overview of Swedish Sensationsfilms—the Scandinavian scourge of the world’s exploitation cinema.

So go get it now at http://www.thegrindhouse.net/

Porn Stars Featured in Horror Films, Jenna Jameson, Marilyn Chambers, Amber Lynn, Veronica Hart

Over the years adult film stars have had varied success in trying to cross over to mainstream movies. Typically their attempts almost always land them in a horror film or two. For some reason horror film producers assume that their audiences love porn stars... and for the most part they are probably right. Here's a few films that prominently feature some of porn's top ladies.

Rabid - Marilyn Chambers
1977 - Directed by David Cronenberg

Rose (Marilyn Chambers) suffers severe wounds in a motorcycle accident. Experimental surgery turns her into a vampire of sorts that infects her victims with a incurable and fatal case of mania that resembles rabies.

Things - Amber Lynn
1989
A guy and his friend go to his brothers house to drink a ton of beer and end up having to fight some ant-like sharp-toothed creatures that were born of the brother's sickly wife. Amber Lynn plays a news reporter, pretty badly too.

Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh - Veronica Hart
1991
Concerns a mysterious Egyptian slasher terrorizing Pittsburgh and a scantly-clad Veronica Hart.

Evil Breed: Legend of Samhain - Jenna Jameson
2003, AKA: Samhain

Also features Chasey Lain and Ginger Lynn Allen. Two American tourists on a romantic camping trip are brutally murdered. A few days later, during the ancient festival of Samhain, a group of American university students moves into a beautiful cottage, surrounded by a lush forest and a majestic lake. They are here to learn about the rituals of the ancient Druids and other Celtic legends. But in the remains of an abandoned copper mine, lives the ancestors of an incestuous clan of cannibals. Stalked by a hulking, disfigured mutant, the students and their chaperone are in for the most harrowing time of their young lives.

Zombie Strippers - Jenna Jameson
2008

Miss Jameson seems to be becoming a favorite porn star to be featured in low budget horror movies. No plot summary required.

House on Haunted Hill - Starring Vincent Price

We have the original House on Haunted Hill fom 1959 starring Vincent Price on DVD for just $7.95 at http://www.thegrindhouse.net/ We also have the Cinema Insomnia edition hosted by Mr. Lobo for just a few bucks more.

Would you stay in a haunted house for one night for $10,000? That is the situation of five strangers who have been invited by Frederick Loren to stay at a house where many murders have taken place. As the night wears on, strange sounds and ghostly visions appear to the guests. Will they be able to make it through the night or will someone end up dead? Or was it all a hoax?

House on Haunted Hill stars the eerie Vincent Price as the wealthy playboy Frederick Loren. Director William Castle enjoyed gimmicks. In some of the theaters showing the movie he rigged a skeleton to fly above the audience at the correct time with the movie. Much of the movie s success is owed to Castle's ingenuity.

Bad Girls Go To Hell DVD, Continues to be a Fan Favorite!

We've had Bad Girls Go To Hell out on DVD since 2008 and it continues to sell all the time. It never ceases to amaze me how certain movies never die. Fans continue to seek this film out all the time. It's one of those celluloid anomalies that has long outlived it's drive-in beginnings.

Bad Girls Go To Hell: One of the roughest and most provocative films to come out of 1965! Bad Girls Go to Hell because they're possessed with sex and they know no shame. After murdering her rapist, Ellen hits the road and ends up in some very disturbing situations. She is used and abused throughout the entire film!

Directed by Doris Wishman.
